Call of Duty League is finally back in action and the 2021 season starts with an explosive esports event, Kickoff Classic, showing off all 12 teams and their rosters.

CDL Kickoff Classic

On the weekend of January 23 to January 24, all 12 Call of Duty League teams will participate in six fan matches. During the CDL offseason, fans voted to see which teams should face each other at the start. This event takes on the wishes of Call of Duty esports fans and pits fan-favorite teams against each other.

This two-day event shows six preseason matches previously voted on by fans. Notable Call of Duty esports personalities around the world also come together to discuss the 2021 CDL season. The official 2021 Call of Duty League season schedule and Stage 1 Group Selection Show will also debut here. These CDL Kickoff Classic matches don’t count towards any points but it does get the community ready for the new season. …

Rocket League developer Psyonix has partnered with ESPN to celebrate the upcoming X Games in Aspen. According to the announcement, this will introduce a new Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) X Games: North American Regional esports event. The competition will start on January 23 to 24 and then on January 30 to 31 for the final regional event.

The competition features North America’s best Rocket League teams competing against each other. The regional winner will earn unique RLCS X Games medals.

The RLCS X Games will also avail new items in the Rocket League Item Shop from January 21 to 24 and again between January 28 to 31. Items include the Octane Decal, Snowblind Topper, and X Games Wheels. Some free additional items to claim are the X-Skis Toppers and the X-Boards, and Player Banner. …

Overwatch League team Guangzhou Charge announced the signing of Kim “Jihun” Ji-hun for its 2021 esports roster, bringing him back from his early retirement.

The London Spitfire’s disappointing results forced the release of its complete roster in October 2020, including Jihun. A few months after that, the Guangzhou Charge showed interest in his profile. This offer convinced him to change his mind and come back to play for the 2021 Overwatch League season.

While playing for the Guangzhou Charge, Jihun must compete for his time against Oh “Rio” Seung-pyo. The latter has way more experience than Jihun and already knows the organization pretty well. If he manages to get some playing time, he could compete alongside high caliber teammates like Nam “Cr0ng” Ki-cheol, who is considered one of the best Overwatch esports players. …

Valve has updated the Dota 2 Pro Circuit mobile app and added several new features under the in-game Watch tab ahead of the official DPC 2021 esports season. Dota 2 players can now follow their favorite team’s matches in the game client. Valve has also announced team content packages to be released later this month.

VALORANT Patch Notes 2.01 are out and feature significant nerfs to Jett’s smokes and a massive rework of the Split map. The developers are also making changes to AFK restrictions for all rounds. These changes are coming just eight days after VALORANT Patch 2.0 as Riot Games continues to push for a competitive game.

Global organization Allied Esports Entertainment (NASDAQ: AESE) announced today that it plans to sell all business and assets for World Poker Tour to Element Partners, a private investment vehicle.

Through this agreement, Element acquires World Poker Tour for $78,250,000. Of that total, $68,250,000 is paid upfront and another portion comes in the form of a revenue share. Allied Esports Entertainment receives a 5% revenue share from World Poker Tour tournaments, maxing at $10 million in three years. Because even the board of directors approved the transaction, the deal will close by early February.
