After the Mid-Season Invitational being canceled, Riot knew that some form of compensation was needed for the fans. As the COVID-19 situation may not be resolved before the start of the summer season, one of the only forms of compensation possible is the creation of an online tournament. Therefore, a report showcased Riot Games’ plans to create a one-time event. LPL vs LCK will be the main feature of this online tournament. This League of Legends offseason event will take place just before the summer season.
League of Legends Offseason Event
Part of the source of this report is a tweet from T1’s CEO, Joe Marsh.
Fans reacted very positively to this discussion. So, Riot Korea discussed the matter with a lot of teams that are already fond of this type of opportunity. However, even with this report, fans do not know every detail regarding this event. However, fans guessed that the most realistic possibility was an exhibition match between LCK and LPL teams.
The LCK and LPL could participate by sending their top teams including T1, Gen.G, DragonX, KT Rolster, JD Gaming, Top Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, and Invictus Gaming. LPL vs LCK will for sure be something that fans want to be a part of.
An Official Statement
“Due to the cancellation of the MSI, the offseason will be for about two months,” said Riot Korea. “We are preparing a temporary competition. Not many things have been decided yet, but details and schedules will be announced later on. We hope this event will be a great present for the fans who are struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Finally, North American and European fans showed some jealousy after hearing the news. It is a very normal reaction to this news. The creation of this kind of All-Star event for League of Legends is well known to attract success. Only the future will tell if Riot NA and Europe will follow the trend.
