Record sets by Travis Scott’s virtual concert on Fortnite

On Thursday night, the Travis Scott Fortnite concert has attracted an audience never seen before in an in-game event. To be precise, over 12 million people have attended “Astronomical”. With the release of the 12.40 update, Fortnite is also using collaboration as a way to gather players in its environment. Using videogames as mediums for real-life events, especially with the COVID-19 situation, is a smart way for a videogame publisher to take its game to a whole new level.

Only people connected to the game could have been a part of this event. This is why Fortnite developers have created a marketing campaign in order to reach as many new fans as possible.
“From April 23–25, blast off into a one of a kind musical journey featuring Travis Scott and the world premiere of a brand new track. Astronomical is an other-worldly experience inspired by Cactus Jack’s creations, built from the ground up in Fortnite” said Epic Games
Travis Scott, alias “Cactus Jack”, was really happy about bringing his new track into Fortnite.
Catching Up
For those who missed the concert and regretted that decision or just discovered this event, a statement from the official website is there to offer a solution:
“To make sure everyone has a chance to experience Astronomical, we’re setting up multiple tour dates with showtimes for players around the globe. Jump in to whichever time fits your schedule best, or catch an encore with your friends if they missed it.” said Epic Games

Of course, there are skins and items that are also coming with this concert. This new record is further proof that in-game collaborations will allow games to be in the spotlight for a while. This event also showcases that there can be a social gathering while social distancing. All required for this to happen is to find the right medium.
