PGL announced that it partnered up with Singaporean company ONE Esports to host the first Dota 2 esports Major in 2021. Alongside Romanian tournament organizer PGL, Singapore Tourism Board and ONE Esports will help host and orchestrate the tournament in March. Held in Singapore, the Major runs from March 27 to April 4. It also features a $500 thousand prize pool that will see 18 top-tier teams competing in the event.

Initially, the Singapore Major was supposed to be held last year, but due to COVID-19 restrictions halting all event preparations worldwide, it was put aside temporarily. But with it moving forward this year, it marks itself as the first of many things. This is the first Major of 2021 and the kicker for the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit esports season. Additionally, it is also the only Dota 2 esports Major broadcasted in 4K resolution to fans globally.

The much-awaited competition will feature 18 teams worldwide across 9 eventful days. Teams from Europe, China, Southeast Asia, CIS, America, and South America will clash it out for a share of the massive $500 thousand prize pool. All teams play on-site in Singapore. When every Upper Division in each region concludes, qualifying participants will be announced.

Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL, expressed his excitement for the approaching event. PGL often saw success with organized events. Now, the company, alongside ONE Esports and Singapore Tourism Board, aims to bring another memorable event.

“We are pleased to come back to Singapore for another great tournament after the Dota 2 Singapore Invitational 2019,” Stroie said. “PGL is honored to present the first Major of Winter 21 DPC, which will occur in one of the safest places possible — Singapore. After running The Manila Major and The Kuala Lumpur Major, we are now returning with another memorable event in Southeast Asia. We are committed to this region with a strategic partnership with Singapore’s primary trade association for esports, the Singapore Games Association (SGGA), and we are more than happy to run great events for SEA and Dota 2 over and over again.

After what feels like centuries for Dota 2 esports fans, the PGL Singapore Major definitely incites excitement and happiness in anyone following the professional scene. PGL did not release many details regarding tournament format, tickets and more yet. Fans can stay tuned as PGL releases more information when the Singapore Major approaches.
